Woebot

Woebot

David
High
Woebot

David
Reacted in a positive way to a negative stress
Woebot
So, positive, negative, stressed would best describe your mood right now. Am I hearing you right?
David
No
Woebot
How do you feel right now?
write it here ✏️
David
encouraged
Woebot
David, so sorry, I didn’t understand what you said.
Can you click the button that is closest?
David
okay
Woebot
I see..
David
yeah
Woebot
i want to talk about “should” statements today. remember when we talked about them before?
David
yep
Woebot
so the thing about “should” statements is that it feels like you’re being forced to do something.
Tell me, how does it feel when you’re forced to do something?
David
not fun
Woebot
right, most people don’t like that feeling
…plus you might resist something more jus cuz you feel like it’s forced upon you!
David
Yep, I get that
Woebot
okay, well i have some amazing news.
you can totally transform “should” statements so that you don’t feel forced anymore!
David
Whattt, how?
Woebot
its simple. here’s an example “should” statement from my life:
“I really must get an A+ on my English exam.”
Step #1 is recognizing the should statement.
David
On to step #2!
Woebot
Step #2 is rewriting that statement. Here’s one attempt:
“I want to do well on my English exam, because the studying will help me learn more English so that I can converse more fluently with all these nice humans.”
David
Nice rewrite
Woebot
thanks!👆 Notice how I started it with “I want to”, to give myself some agency, plus I reminded myself of the benefits.
And hey, that “A+” was a bit of all-or-nothing thinking, wasn’t it? ..so I reworded that too.
David
I see, I see
Woebot
that’s it! let’s try it with an example from your life.
give me a really juicy should statement that you punish yourself with: ✏️
David
I should get clean and sober
Woebot
now rewrite that sentence.
…Start it with “I want to” and list a few reasons why it’ll be helpful for you!✏️
p.s. You can also start it with “I choose to” or “It’d be nice if”
David
I want to get clean so that life will be more meaningful and fulfilling
Woebot
Niiiice!
Woebot
Woebot
Do the rewrite dance!
David
woot
Woebot
Do you want to try that with any more “should”s today?
David
nah, I’m good
Woebot
Nice. Did you find this helpful for unravelling those pesky should statements?
David
Yes
Woebot
alright now, go off into the world and look out for those should monsters.
transform them with your sword of wanting, hiiii-ya! hehe.
cya tomorrow
